Many people find it easy to identify their strengths, but the same cannot be said as to their weaknesses. To be exact, it is not as natural for a person to embrace his or her weak points as when he or she is to embrace personal strengths.

It is very important, however, that you understand your weaknesses because these are the areas that you have the power to improve. These are the parts of you that you must learn to welcome because it is only then that you will be able to work on them and convert them to actual personal skills, instead of allowing them to hold you back.

For the IELTS in particular, it would immensely help candidates if they are able to identify which among the four language skills they need to target and spend more time on, so that come examination time, they are more confident to face the different test tasks, especially those that concern identified difficulties.

In understanding your weak points for the IELTS, here are a few points!

#1: Identify which of the four language skills you find most challenging.

The IELTS consists of four parts, which are Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking, and these sections are consistent regardless of whether you are taking the IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training.

Among these four major language skills, there are areas that you may feel that you need to allot more time for, and that is certainly fine. Remember, no one is good at anything. For second language learners, it is most definitely normal to find certain skills more challenging than the others. The key, again, is to embrace these weak points and not be discouraged by them.

If you need help in determining your language strengths and weaknesses, our IELTS and General English classes are assuredly a good start. We do diagnostic tests to find out a learner’s English level, and our teachers are highly trained and qualified to assess language learners and monitor their progress.

#2: Manage your time, taking into account your strengths and weaknesses.

Having identified your areas for improvement, it is equally important to budget your time accordingly. This means, of course, spending more time working on what you feel are your weak points and monitoring your improvements regularly up until the scheduled date of the exam. It would also mean being open to adjustments every now and then, as there are instances where a language learner is able to make major improvements in just a little amount of time.

#3: Be focused and disciplined.

Lastly, and as in all aspects of life, you need focus and discipline. There will be times that you will feel discouraged, or feel the urge to spend more time on the skills or areas that you are good and confident at. This is completely normal, but always remember to keep your eyes on the prize, the prize being competence and confidence in all four language areas covered by the IELTS.

Enroling in our courses takes away these tendencies! Certainly, attending classes gives you the motivation that you need, which you may not easily find if you do things on your own. With our teachers who will be able to consistently monitor you and your progress, focus, discipline, and determination are achievable.
