Timetable

The course in general is 8 weeks long, but in some circumstances it can be shorter or longer.

At the end of the course, you are required to sit the exam.

All lessons are provided on Zoom – free application, which you need to download to your smartphone/laptop.

Our highly qualified and experienced teachers teach on Zoom, between 18:00 and 21:00 twice a week Monday+Wednesday or Tuesday+Thursday and from 9:00 to 12:00 on Saturday+Sunday. Sometimes we have availability for morning lessons during the week too. Exact timetable is explained on OPEN DAY.

Registration for this Course

After the initial application and interview, we will ask for the following:

  • National insurance number
  • EU/UK ID or passport
  • Proof of address
  • Proof of employment/unemployment – depending on funding rules

What to achieve by attending the course?

The course is tailor made to your level. You will improve your basic skills speaking, listening, writing, reading and grammar. You will be able to solve Mathematical problems and give explanation in English.

Certificates

The exam is organized in the classroom environment and it is compulsory to do the exam at the end of the course (funding requirement). After successful completion of the exams, students receive accredited certificates Functional Skills English and Functional Skills Mathematics (City & Guilds Awarding institution) on their level.

1. What is Functional Skills English and Maths?

This is a course that provides the basic reading, writing and mathematics skills a student needs to be able to live and work in British society.

2. What are the levels of this course?

The course is conducted at three levels: Entry 1 Level, Entry 2 Level and Entry 3 Level.

3. Is this course free?

Yes, the course is 100% free for students. The British Government and the European Union are jointly funding this course for the student.

4. Why is there a registration form containing many personal questions?

Completing this form is necessary to assess whether a given student qualifies for a grant in the form of financing the course by the British government.

5. Where are lessons and exams held?

In the face of the pandemic, lessons are held online and exams are held in classrooms while maintaining and observing all safety rules related to the covid-19 pandemic. Under “normal” conditions, lessons and exams take place stationary – in classrooms.

6. Do I have to pay for exams?

No, the student does not bear any costs related to the course and exams.

7. Do I have to come to the exam? What will happen if I don't come?

Yes – the condition for completing the course and receiving a certificate is to take and pass exams. A student who fails to appear for an exam will NEVER again be able to use the funds to retake a level they have not completed. Therefore, funds ONCE allocated cannot be used again.

8. What does the exam look like - what does it involve?

Depending on the university requirements; Typically, a student must take an English language exam: writing, reading and conversation; And in mathematics: part using a calculator and part without using a calculator.

9. How long does the course last?

Typically, the course lasts from 6 to 8 weeks. This is the minimum duration of the course to be effective and ensure that the student is prepared for the exam.

10. Who teaches the courses?

The courses are taught by qualified teachers. Teachers are selected very carefully and their qualifications are checked by an appropriate member of our team.

11. How are groups selected?

Groups are created according to several criteria. The most important criterion is the level of knowledge of English.

Each induction student must take an initial test so that we can match the student to the appropriate level.

Another criterion is the student’s availability – we make every effort to ensure that the student can attend the course at a time convenient for him.

12. How big are the classes?

Classes typically have 10 to 15 students. We make every effort to ensure that the student has the opportunity to communicate with other students, which has a huge impact on improving communication skills in English, which in turn contributes to the student opening up to this language and becoming more adventurous.

13. Will I receive a certificate after completing the course?

Yes – after completing the course and passing the exams, the student receives two certificates: in English and mathematics.
